RFID Parking Access System (HGS–OGS)
Known on highways as HGS, this system entered our lives thanks to the RFID parking system. It consists of three main components: reader, tag, and antenna. It operates by transmitting vehicle and driver information via UHF RFID Tags placed on windshields or license plates. RFID tags act as data storage units. Communication between the tag and the reader is established through antennas. Costs can be reduced slightly with integrated RFID readers.
Antennas are permitted to communicate within the 868.6–868.7 MHz range according to European Union standards, and in our country, frequency regulation in compliance with EU standards has been established under the KET directive.
This system is essentially the integration of a camera and developed software with a barrier. The type of camera is important, but the crucial component here is the software. The moving images captured by the camera are matched via the software, which then sends a command to open the barrier for the authorized license plate. It has a significantly lower cost compared to RFID systems, but considering environmental factors, it becomes highly disadvantageous. In bad weather, during nighttime, if shadows fall on the plate, or if the plate is dirty, the system may not function correctly. Therefore, RFID systems are much more commonly preferred.
