WHAT IS NFC?

Near Field Communication (NFC) is a wireless communication technology widely used in contactless payment, ticketing, access control and data sharing. NFC operates at a frequency of 13.56 MHz and has a range of up to 5 centimetres. NFC tags are small passive devices that can store information and communicate with NFC-enabled devices. There are different NFC tag chips such as NTAG213 and NTAG215. In this article, we will examine the similarities and differences between the two chips.

SIMILARITIES

NTAG213 and NTAG215 are types of NFC chip operating at 13.56 MHz. Both are passive tag chips, meaning they do not require batteries or external power supply to operate. They can be read and written using an NFC-enabled device such as a smartphone (Andorid and IOS) or tablet.

Both NTAG213 and NTAG215 have a unique identifier (UID) that can be used to distinguish them from other NFC tag chips. The UID is a 7-byte serial number pre-programmed into the tag during production. The UID is used for anti-counterfeiting, inventory management and other purposes.

DIFFERENCES

Memory capacity

One of the main differences between NTAG213 and NTAG215 is their memory capacity. NTAG213 has a memory capacity of 180 bytes, while NTAG215 has a memory capacity of 540 bytes. This means that the NTAG215 can store more data than the NTAG213. The extra memory capacity of the NTAG215 can be useful for applications that require more data storage, such as product verification and marketing campaigns.

Reading Distance

Another difference between NTAG213 and NTAG215 is the reading distance. The NTAG213 has a reading distance of up to 5 centimetres, while the NTAG215 has a reading distance of up to 10 centimetres. This means that NTAG215 can be read from a slightly greater distance than NTAG213. The longer read distance of the NTAG215 can be useful for applications that require more flexibility in read distances, such as access control or inventory management.

Data Transfer Rate

These two chips also differ from each other in data transfer rates. The NTAG213 has a data transfer rate of 106 kbps, while the NTAG215 has a data transfer rate of 424 kbps. This means that NTAG215 can transfer data faster than NTAG213. The higher data transfer rate of the NTAG215 is useful for applications that require frequent data updates, such as event ticketing or transport.

Price

These chips differ in price. NTAG215 usually costs more than NTAG213. This is because NTAG215 has more memory capacity and higher data transfer rate than NTAG213.

USAGE AREAS:

These chips are used in many different fields. For example;

  •  As a digital business card
  •  In the personnel tracking system
  •  Inventory management
  • It is used in payment methods. You can read this article for more information about NFC.

As a result, both are chips that can store up to 144 bytes of data and can be read and written using an NFC-enabled device. However, they differ in memory capacity, read distance, data transfer speed and price. The NTAG215 has more memory capacity, longer read distance, faster and
